Duchess of York is in the royal sheepfold, writes SARAH VINE

Fergie's fist pump: The Duchess of York greets the crowds at Windsor Castle with her daughter Beatrice for the wedding of Princess Eugenie with Jack Brooksbank on Friday
Two royal marriages in the time of five months. Two dresses, two processions, two trips through the aisle to the enchanting St George's Chapel in Windsor. And two very different mothers-of-the-bride.
The first, Doria Ragland, the model of self-effacing dignity. Alone, unknown and unaccompanied; nonchalant, unpretentious, clearly somewhat overwhelmed by all the pomp and splendor – yet flawless in her behavior and attitude on the big day. Just an ordinary woman who gets the best out of an extraordinary situation, enjoying every moment of her daughter's triumph.
The second, Sarah Ferguson: the opposite in every way. Unthinking, bold, basking in the glory of her daughter's royal position, surrounded by old friends and thugs, giggling and chanting in the congregation, full of confidence – and finally back where she has always felt she belongs: within the royal herd , then to her ex-husband in the first row of life. Did not poke that fist while greeting the crowd, say it all!

What the lip readers saw in the chapel

The overstimulating emotion of Jack Brooksbank's groom was never clearer than when he saw his bride enter the chapel.
Standing at the altar, he whispered to his brother Tom, "Oh my heart, oh, break my heart."
Then Jack said to his future wife: & # 39; You look perfect. & # 39;
Sarah told Princess Beatrice: "My stomach can not hold my stomach!"
Sarah told Princess Beatrice: "My stomach can not hold my stomach!"
The romantic words were captured by professional lip readers.
Meanwhile, while everyone's attention was focused on the bride and groom, a number of sideways appearing were casually caught while they were being whispered in the couches. Sarah, Duchess of York, told Princess Beatrice: "My stomach, my stomach can not hold! & # 39; Her giggling daughter replied: "Mine is OK when I wear a corset."
Zara Tindall remarked sadly against cousin Prince Harry: "It is very quiet compared to the shouting at your wedding."

Outside the chapel, Sarah was asked by Robbie Williams & # 39; daughter Teddy, six, if she was the queen. & # 39; No, & # 39; came the powerful reaction.
Teddy's pop starfather also seemed impressed. & # 39; Wow, this is great … yes, yes, & # 39; Robbie exclaimed.
Even the outfit choices of Doria and Fergie reflected their contrasting approach: they both chose green, but carried it very differently. Doria, you remember, was elegant and subdued in soft mint; Fergie chose a vivid shadow of striking emerald and a winged look on my hat.
From the moment she arrived, beaming like the Cheshire Cat, she was every inch of the incorrigible, rancid Fergie of legend, whose behavior was a staple pain in the royal back.
Yes, this was Eugenie's Big Day & # 39; (And did she not look beautiful in her Peter Pilotto dress, perhaps better cut and thrown than the Givenchy number of Meghan with his boat neck?); But it was also without doubt Fergie's Moment & # 39 ;, the highlight of her long walk back from the wilderness.
Prince Philip's presence despite his high age of 97 (it would have been easiest for him to advocate disease and to skip the whole thing altogether) and not the biggest fan of the world, should be the cherry on the pie.
Behind the scenes, Fergie's rehabilitation has, of course, been accepted for a long time. She and Andrew, both 58, have described themselves as & # 39; the happiest unmarried couple in the world.
They share the newly renovated Royal Lodge at Windsor Great Park and a £ 13 million chalet in Verbier, Switzerland. For someone who once described Princess Margaret as "done more to bring shame on the family than ever thought possible," she created a royal rapprochement that few would have predicted.
But this public recognition, not only in the eyes of the British public but for God and the Queen himself, means so much more. It represents the final phase in a process that has taken the best part of three decades.
And whatever you think of the woman, it is undeniable that she has the tenacity of a terrier when it comes to getting what she wants.
Yes, she has behaved innumerable on countless occasions; but despite all that, I can not help admiring her ambition, perseverance, humor and pure zest for life. Congratulations, Eugenie and Jack: I wish you all the best. And cheers Fergs: they broke the mold when they made you.
